3.5-INCH DISK DRIVE SCSI CONFIGURATION

The following paragraphs provide SCSI jumper and terminating
resistor information. There are two types of jumper configurations
for the 3.5-inch drives: SCSI drives with five jumpers and seven
jumpers.

3.1.1 Five-Jumper Configuration

There are five jumper selections on the Quantum Trailblazer 420S
and 850S and the Quantum Fireball 540S, 640S, 1080S, and 1280S
hard drive printed circuit boards (the Quantum Fireball TM 1.0S,
2.1S, and 3.2S have only four jumper positions—there is no PK
jumper). Typical circuit board locations are shown in Figure 3-1. The
black jumper body indicates that a jumper is installed (the setting is
ON). The SCSI bus Termination Enable (TE) jumper enables SCSI bus
active termination on the drive when installed (TE=1). Only the two
SCSI devices (including the SCSI host adapter) located at the ends of
the SCSI bus should have termination enabled. When removed (PK
position may be used to store the jumper), the termination circuit is
disabled. In the disabled mode, each individual SCSI bus is
electrically isolated from the termination source. This method makes
termination easier to configure.
The SCSI address jumpers are described in Table 3-1.

CAUTION: Verify that no two drives on the SCSI bus have the same address
(see Table 3-1 for drive address information).
